Each record in the database has a Source field. Look to the digits preceding the decimal point and identify the original Source from the list below.

The first among the Châteauguay Protestant parish register files were extracted from copies that were supplied to the civil authorities by the Churches concerned. These registers were microfilmed at the Archives nationales de Québec by the Genealogical Society of Utah, and are available on microfilm from both sources. La Fédération des Familles-Souches Québéquoises Inc., agents for the Archives nationales offer these films for sale at C$25 each under the film numbers M333 reels 1 to 11. Their address is:

The films may be examined and photocopied in Montréal at the Archives nationales de Québec, 535, av. Viger Est, or at their various branches elsewhere in Québec. Family History Centres associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have these films available for research at their premises worldwide, where they are distributed under the GSU number associated with each film in the list below. Most Family History Centres will need to bring the films in from Salt Lake, for which there is a nominal fee.

In this database: The "Church" is represented as it appears in each year's records, often changing from year to year for an individual Church. The "Source" record displays the film number 1-11, (M333 reels 1-11 further identified below) followed by the frame number at which the record appears. The Contents of each film are outlined below, including note of any missing time periods.

MISSING RECORDS: We have been successful in locating some of the records from Churches and time periods that were omitted from the M333 microfilms. They have been photocopied and the copies retained in our own files. Where the Source is indicated as 12.0001 or over, the source is further described below. In most cases these represent our personal files. Copies are available upon request.

MULTIPLE VERSIONS OF THE TRUTH: The original records are generally more readable than the Court copies. In addition, with the original Church books under examination we found many cases in which it appeared the Court copy erred in transcription and we replaced these as indicated. Occasionally we found it impossible to resolve a contradiction, in which cases both records appear herein, each referring to its own source and each cross referenced with the other.

19 & 20 are from pages of a transcript of Caldwell's Manor registers by Pam Wood Waugh, Châteauguay region items reported here with her kind permission. These transcripts may be purchased from Pam directly.
